Wheatsheaf Inn,
|
March 2005 News At the March business meeting of the club, arrangements were progressed in connection with the jazz concert to be given by the Gloucestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra on Saturday 23rd April in the Westwood Centre Northleach. Previous concerts have proved very popular. Tickets can be obtained from Keith Harding and Fothergills Galleries in Northleach and Bourton Basket in Bourton or telephone 01451 861210.
The new club website is now linked to both the Northleach town site and the Lions link and has received a lot of hits. The address is ‘northleachandfosselionsclub.org.uk’
The quiz night held in Northleach in February with other visiting clubs was very successful and raised £50 for club funds. In March members and their guests are dining at the Fosse Manor Hotel and the April social event is an evening supper cruise with Telstar Cruises from Tewksbury on 26th April for members and friends.
Fifteen years ago Lions launched its SightFirst project with the ambition to significantly reduce avoidable blindness throughout the world. To date, 4.6 million people have had their sight restored and a further 20 milion have had serious vision loss prevented. There are less blind people today despite a 20% increase in the world’s population over this period. However, as the population will continue to grow the work is not ended and Lions ‘SightFirst Phase II’ is about to be launched this year to carry on the work done in Phase I over the next three years. Clubs such as Northleach & Fosse will continue to help fund this enormous project.
The Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month for its business meeting. The venue is the Wheatsheaf in Northleach starting at 8pm and all interested people are welcome to attend. The next meeting is on the 12th April. |
