Meeting at The
Wheatsheaf Inn,
|
May 2005 News The May meeting welcomed a visit from members of the Carterton Lions Club. The meeting enjoyed their fellowship and shared experiences.
The jazz concert in April reported a surplus in excess of £550 and thanks were expressed to all the sponsors to achieve this success.
A project involving all the pupils at the Northleach Primary School was approved. With the cooperation of the staff, pupils will be encouraged to grow vegetables from seed in their gardens at home and the ultimate harvest will form the ingredients of the salad at a lunch in October attended by the children, staff, parents and lion members. This will help towards the recent emphasis of balanced meals for children and, it is hoped, people of all ages in the town will become more aware of the Lions Club and its objectives.
A successful river cruise for members and their friends on the Avon at Tewksbury was enjoyed by all who attended.
The 16th Charter Anniversary Dinner of the Club will be held on Friday 24th June at the Merrymouth Inn at Fyfield. The Lions District Governor will be attending.
The Lions Day at the United Nations was held recently in the House of Commons. The Charter of the United Nations contains the words which reflect the First Object of Lions Clubs International viz: “To create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world”. That Lions Object was written 28 years before the founding of the United Nations and has remained unchanged to this day.
The Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month for its business meeting. The venue is the Wheatsheaf at Northleach starting at 8pm and all interested people are welcome to attend. The next meeting is on June 14th.
