The July meeting of the Club saw the new President, Keith Messenger, take the chair. He outlined his plans for the coming year and his theme would be “Closer links with the community”. The Secretary and Treasurer are unchanged with Stuart Asquith and Mike Chappin respectively. The Chairman of the Donations & Funding Committee is David Weldon and The Chairman of the Community Services Committee is Mike Pezet.  A 30-year Lions membership badge was presented to Lion Ron Weldon.

Various donations were approved at the meeting including amounts to The North Cotswolds Voluntary Help Centre, Leukaemia Research Awareness, The Edwards Trust and Guideposts Trust.

Members attended the Church Fete at Bourton recently and raised £166 for our Charity Funds. The Club will be supporting the Countryside Fair Day at Northleach on 7th August.

A very successful 16th Charter Anniversary Dinner of the Club was held at the Merrymouth Inn and included a lively speech from Debby Harris, head teacher at the Nothleach School.

The new District Governor Jim Hamilton, has chosen “It is an honour to be a Lion” as his slogan and is emphasising the importance of recruiting new members who will be active lions.  Lions International is still the world’s largest and most active service organisation and this has to maintained.  It is established in 192 countries throughout the world and are looked upon not only as leaders in providing service but people who reach out beyond their own borders to join with others in answering the needs of humanity.  Every time this is achieved is another step forward towards bringing a world of peace.

The Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month for its business meeting. The venue is the Wheatsheaf at Northleach starting at 8pm and all interested people are welcome to attend.  The next meeting is on August 9th.
