Meeting at The
Wheatsheaf Inn,
|
February 2005 News The February meeting agreed to pledge money to the local Penrith Lions Club to help residents of Carlisle following the severe flooding that occurred in the city last month. Also, a donation was approved for the special eye camera appeal for the Ophthalmic Department in the Cheltenham Hospital.
An up-to-date report on the Tsunami disaster in south-east Asia indicated that the Lions Clubs International Foundation had now increased its commitment to the disaster appeal to $5 million, half coming from its reserves and half from donations from clubs and individuals. Lions clubs in all the effected countries are directly organising essential supplies such as food, water, medicines and building materials for the reconstruction of local villages. The clubs are meeting directly with government officials and relief organisations to develop recovery initiatives for the longer- term aid.
The District Governor, Lion Alan Denham, made his Official Visit to the club at the February meeting. He addressed the members and brought them up-to-date with news from the District and Lions International. He congratulated the club on its efforts to serve the community and stressed the need to try to increase membership.
The Club is holding a quiz night at the Wheatsheaf Inn in Northleach on Wednesday 23rd February for members and guests.
The Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month for its business meeting. The venue is the Wheatsheaf Inn in Northleach starting at 8pm and all interested people are welcome to attend. The next meeting is on the 8th March. |
