The collection outside Waitrose in Cirencester was very successful and over £1,000 was raised in the two days. The Christmas collections at the Co-op at Bourton and Tescos at Stow and Cirencester raised a further £1000 for our Charities.

Socially, a evening of good food and company was enjoyed by members and their wives at the Sherborne Arms in Aldsworth. On the Saturday 17th December members held a Christmas social at Fosse Lodge Northleach to relax before undertaking the pre-Christmas collections.

The latest report of Lions involvement in the South Asia tsunami indicated that $15million  had been sent from Lions International Foundation Funds. In Indonesia two Lions villages have been established with electricity and wells. In Sri Lanka, 318 homes in five locations are planned and in Thailand two Lion villages with 198 houses are being built at Lanta Island. In India, homes with community centres, schools, medical centres and orphanage is being built at Chennai on the worst-hit east coast.

In 1995 the Lions Eye Health Programme was introduced in the

UK  supported by Diabetes UK and the International Glaucoma Assoc.  This was designed for developed countries with the simple purpose to inform the public of the dangers of not having their eyes regularly examined. This has now a new impetus with the support of the Macular Disease Society and Low Vision Consensus Group. Lion Clubs and its members can promote this programme  with the professionals using its links with the local communities.

The Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month for its business meeting. The venue is the Wheatsheaf Inn at Northleach starting at 8pm and all interested people are welcome to attend.  The next meeting is on January 10th.
