At the recent meeting of the Club, Roly Smith of the Red Lion was presented with an honorary membership certificate in recognition of his support and hospitality to the Club.

Socially, the members have had a picnic outing at Lechlade enjoyed by all and a car treasure hunt around Northleach finishing up at the Coach and Horses on the Fosse Way.  With glorious weather this was a great success.

The next outing in September is to Stanway House and fountain.

Funds for charity were raised  by the Club organising the car parking at Bourton and a stall will be manned at Stocks Green in Stow on the 17th September to raise further funds.

The Club has always sent used stamps to the District Appeal and it has been informed that over 250 kilos (amounting to many millions of stamps) have been collected. These are sorted and sent to dealers

and over £500 have been raised so far.

The latest reports of the Tsunami recovery indicated that, through the work of the Lions Clubs International Foundation and the local Lions Clubs in the areas, much work has already been carried out and much more is scheduled. Over 300 houses have been built in Indonesia, 500 in construction in Sri Lanka and 80 in construction in Thailand. Problems of lack of infrastructure such as sewers and roads exist but the local Clubs are persevering and overcoming these  difficulties.

The new International President of the International Association of Lions Clubs has adopted the slogan “Passion to Excel” as his theme for the year. A high priority  is for growth of membership as that would result in greater service to the community.

The Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month for its business meeting. The venue is the Wheatsheaf at Northleach starting at 8pm and all interested people are welcome to attend.  The next meeting is on September 13th.
