Meeting at The
Wheatsheaf Inn,
|
February 2006 News At the February meeting of the club members approved donations to the Olympic Games for the Disabled in Shanghai, funding a Lions Eye Camp, Hospice Care in Kenya, Acorns Hospice Trust and the John Hopkins Trust.
The bins for the collection of used and unwanted spectacles and used hearing aids have been placed in three additional sites, namely, the doctors’ surgery in Northleach, the doctors’ surgery in Bourton-on-the-Water and the pharmacy in Stow-on-the-Wold. This makes a total of six bins in the neighbourhood. The goods will be forwarded for use in Third World Countries.
There will be a skittles evening for members and their friends at the Farmers Arms in Guiting Power on 30th March and it is planned to have an Easter-egg hunt in April.
Many Lion members were themselves badly affected by Hurricane Katrina last year but stories are emerging of how they still found time and inner resolve to help other victims. These amazing Lions staffed shelters, raised funds or cleared debris even though they may have lost their job or home. They showed that the Lions motto “We Serve” is not merely lip service but is central to what Lions are all about.
The Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month for its business meeting. The venue is the Wheatsheaf Inn at Northleach starting at 8pm and all interested people are welcome to attend. The next meeting is on March 14th. For further information see the Club website:www.northleachandfosselions.org.uk |
