May 2006 News

It was reported to the May meeting that the project for the collection of old spectacles and hearing aids is being well received by the public and much has already been shipped to the central sorting and distribution depot.  There is now a collecting bin at the day-clinic of the Moreton-in-Marsh Hospital.

The second-hand computer made available to the club has now been passed to the pre-school group in Northleach and is already in use and much appreciated. It was noted that the scanner appeal for the Cirencester Hospital, to which the Club had subscribed, finally reached £74,000.

A treasure hunt has been planned for the 4th June for members, wives and friends and a BBQ will be held at Grace Drive on the 8th July to celebrate the start of a new lionistic year.

The House of Commons is all set to have its very own Lions Club.

In keeping with the Lionistic tradition of ‘no politics’, it will be known as the “Lions Club of the Palace of Westminster” and will be an all-party affair.

The annual UN Lions Day was held recently in the House of Commons to celebrate the links between the Association and the UN. There was addresses by Lord Puttnam, who is President of UNICEF UK’s AIDS Campaign, and Stephen Turner of Wateraid.

The Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month for its business meeting. The venue is the Wheatsheaf Inn at Northleach starting at 8pm and all interested people are welcome to attend.  The next meeting is on June 13th.
