January 2006 News

At the January meeting  Nick Stroude was enrolled as a member of the Club bringing the number of fully active members to seventeen.

Treasurer Mike Chappin reported on the satisfactory finances of the club especially after the proceeds of the Christmas collections  had been received. The Accounts for the last year had been audited.

It was agreed that the Club would support the Northleach Church Roof Appeal by volunteering to man the carparking arrangements at the Stowell Park Plant Event in May. This would raise the Club’s profile in the community.

Members enjoyed a meal with their wives and partners  in January at the Old Manse Hotel in Bourton and a bingo night has been arranged for the 28th February at the Wheatsheaf Inn.

The Club is arranging to have receptacles placed at certain points locally for the collection of old and unwanted spectacles. These will be passed to agencies for forwarding to the Third World countries for use of the visually handicapped. Initially, there will be bins at St John Baptist Church in Cirencester, Simones Health Centre in Cirencester and the Pharmacy in Northleach.

The Lions International Campaign SightFirst ll is now well underway in fighting preventable blindness throughout the world. The first SightFirst Campaign has improved eye care for more than 100 million people, prevented vision loss or restored vision in more the 24 million, created more than 300 eye-care clinics worldwide and trained more than 68,000 health-care professionals.

The Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month for its business meeting. The venue is the Wheatsheaf Inn at Northleach starting at 8pm and all interested people are welcome to attend.  The next meeting is on February 15th.
