Meeting at The
Wheatsheaf Inn,
|
April 2006 News The President Keith Messenger chaired the April meeting and outlined his plans for the coming months. Lion David Weldon, chair of the Donations and Funding Committee, proposed that donations should be made to the Meningitis Research Foundation and the HeartSWell Lodge. This latter charity supports heart patients, their carers and their families in the South West. These proposals were agreed.
The fundraising event in May is to supply refreshments at the Victoria Hall in Bourton on Tuesday 16th May. The Club is also committed to attending to the car-parking arrangements at the “Springtime at Stowell Park” event on the 21st May in association with the National Gardens Scheme and the Northleach Church Restoration Fund.
The members had social outings in the last month of skittles at the Farmers Arms in Guiting Power and an Easter afternoon at Green Garden Cottage in Aldsworth.
The Lions “Gift for Living” project in partnership with the Child Advocacy International in Bosnia has now been going for over 10 years since the war of 1992-1995. The partnership has a successful track record in funding and supporting paediatric departments disrupted by the war and has covered Kosevo, Sarajevo, Mostar and Gorazde. It is now directing its attention to Banja Luka in the Republic of Srbska. This is geographically separated from the rest of Bosnia and has to provide independent medical services.
The Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month for its business meeting. The venue is the Wheatsheaf Inn at Northleach starting at 8pm and all interested people are welcome to attend. The next meeting is on May 9th.
